Comprehensive atmospheric modeling of reactive cyclic siloxanes and their oxidation products

چکیده
Cyclic volatile methyl siloxanes (cVMSs) are important components in personal care products that transport and react in the atmosphere. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6), and their gas-phase oxidation products have been incorporated into the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model. Gas-phase oxidation products, as the precursor to secondary organic aerosol from this compound class, were included to quantify the maximum potential for aerosol formation from gas-phase reactions with OH. Four 1-month periods were modeled to quantify typical concentrations, seasonal variability, spatial patterns, and vertical profiles. Typical model concentrations showed parent compounds were highly dependent on population density as cities had monthly averaged peak D5 concentrations up to 432 ngm−3. Peak oxidized D5 concentrations were significantly less, up to 9 ngm−3, and were located downwind of major urban areas. Model results were compared to available measurements and previous simulation results. Seasonal variation was analyzed and differences in seasonal influences were observed between urban and rural locations. Parent compound concentrations in urban and peri-urban locations were sensitive to transport factors, while parent compounds in rural areas and oxidized product concentrations were influenced by large-scale seasonal variability in OH.

Computational Study of the Mechanism, Reaction Rate and Thermochemistry of Atmospheric Oxidation of Methylamine with Singlet Oxygen
The reaction of CH₃NH₂ with O₂ on the singlet potential energy surfaces (PES) was carried out using the B3LYP, CCSD(T) and G3B3 theoretical approaches along with 6-311++G(3df,3pd) basis set. The suggested mechanism for the title reaction consists of one pre-reactive complex. From the pre-reactive complex, nine types of products, CH2NH+H2O2, CH3NH+OOH,...
متن کاملOxidation resistance of the nanostructured YSZ coating on the IN-738 superalloy
Conventional and nanostructured YSZ coatings were deposited on the IN-738 Ni super alloy by the atmospheric plasma spray technique. The oxidation was measured at 1100°C in an atmospheric electrical furnace. According to the experimental results the nanostructured coatings showed a better oxidation resistance than the conventional ones. The improved oxidation resistance of the nanocoating could ...
متن کاملExperimental investigation of the low temperature oxidation of the five isomers of hexane.
The low-temperature oxidation of the five hexane isomers (n-hexane, 2-methyl-pentane, 3-methyl-pentane, 2,2-dimethylbutane, and 2,3-dimethylbutane) was studied in a jet-stirred reactor (JSR) at atmospheric pressure under stoichiometric conditions between 550 and 1000 K. The evolution of reactant and product mole fraction profiles were recorded as a function of the temperature using two analytic...
متن کاملSynthesis of Cyclic Alkenylsiloxanes by Semihydrogenation: A Stereospecific Route to (Z)-Alkenyl Polyenes
Cyclic alkenylsiloxanes were synthesized by semihydrogenation of alkynylsilanes-a reaction previously plagued by poor stereoselectivity. The silanes, which can be synthesized on multigram scale, undergo Hiyama-Denmark coupling to give (Z)-alkenyl polyene motifs found in bioactive natural products. The ring size of the silane is crucial: five-membered cyclic siloxanes also couple under fluoride-...
متن کاملFructation Induces Hemin Degradation in Methemoglobin
Under prolonged diabetic conditions, HbA1c is produced from normal hemoglobin (HbA0) through a non-enzymatic glycosylation or glycation, a process which enhances the hemoglobin susceptibility to be auto-oxidized to methemoglobin (metHb). Here we are reporting that the non-enzymatic reaction between fructose and metHb (metHb fructation) induces significant changes in the gl...
